Final work is underway at Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool, which is set to officially re-open this coming weekend as the new-look Burnham Swim and Sports Academy.

The pool’s new bosses Sara Cox-Conklin and Mark Conklin have spent six weeks modernising the Berrow Road facility and are now ready to re-open the new-look premises.

“Extensive work on repair and modernisation of the premises has been taking place with the purpose of transforming the buildings from merely a place to swim to a new wellness and multi-sport centre including a new coffee shop brewing Starbucks coffee,” Sara told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“There has been a considerable injection of cash to date, in addition to a considerable injection of enthusiasm by all those whom will be involved.”

On Tuesday (July 15th) Burnham’s Mayor Peter Clayton visited the pool to meet the team behind the facility (as pictured) and see the changes for himself.

The new facilities include a new sports clothing shop called Multisport Retail Kiosk, which will sell a wide range of swimming products and kit for triathletes such as wetsuits and bikes.

The newly-refurbished balcony area above the pool will also offer a wide range of exercise sessions including pilates, yoga, body toning and spinning classes.

A series of tester classes will be run during August with a wider schedule starting in September that will include water activities such as water aerobics and aqua jogging.

The academy will open this Sunday afternoon (July 20th) when the four lucky winners of a competition will swim two lengths of the pool before six local swimming clubs from Taunton, Bridgwater, Cheddar, Weston, Burnham and the West Country will take part in a competitive pre-opening workout. The pool will then open to the public at 6am on Monday morning (July 21st).
