Public
tennis courts in Burnham-On-Sea receive a funding boost
Public
tennis courts in Burnham-On-Sea have received a £650 funding
boost from the district council to repair recent vandalism.
The
tennis courts in Manor Gardens, pictured here, were
previously managed by Burnham Pool when it was operated by Sedgemoor
District Council.
However,
when the transfer of the lease was completed to new bosses Sara
Cox-Conklin and Mark Conklin earlier this year, new arrangements
for court hire and maintenance needed to be made.
Sedgemoor
spokesperson Sam Elliott told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: "Unfortunately,
concerns were also raised to the council's leisure department
about recent vandalism occurring within the courts."
"This
vandalism included the destruction of the nets and some of the
perimeter fencing. Sedgemoor has acted to replace the two nets
and carry out repairs costing £650 to the perimeter fencing."
The
council's clean surroundings team will also be carrying out regular
ground checks to inspect and clean the courts in the future.
"It
is hoped these improvements and regular checks will allow the
community of Burnham to continue to use the courts and benefit
from the rewards of regular exercise."
"Should
residents wish to raise any concerns about the courts or wish
to report any vandalism please contact Sedgemoor Direct on 0845
408 2540," added Sam.
The
tennis courts do not currently need to be booked and can be used
on a first-come first-use basis, although the council hopes to
introduce a booking facility soon.
