Burnham-On-Sea
to take centre stage in Tour of Britain cycle race
Some
of Europe's top cyclists will be rolling into Burnham-On-Sea this
autumn when the town takes centre stage in the Tour of Britain
Cycle Race.
Burnham-On-Sea.com
learns that Burnham will be formally announced next month as one
of the finishing points during the Somerset stage of the 2008
Tour of Britain.
Large
crowds of cycling fans are expected to flock into Burnham to watch
the action, when the Somerset stage ends in the town on September
9th.
While
the route of the race has not yet been formally announced, a spokeswoman
for the Tour of Britain told us: "The announcement about
the route will be officially unveiled in March, but unofficially
I can say that Burnham will be the finishing point for the stage."
The
2008 race will be eight days long, beginning on September 7th
and finishing on the 14th.
Bob
Nicholson, Chairman of the Sedgemoor Tourism Association, welcomed
the news this week, telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: "This is
superb news for Burnham and our area."
"I'm
sure many local accommodation providers will see an uplift in
trade over this period."
The
Tour of Britain is free to spectators and there are expected to
be a variety of events taking place at the finishing site.
