Burnham
music promoters step in to save outdoor summer concert
A
group of Burnham-On-Sea music promoters has saved the future of
the town's annual 'Under A Summer Moon' concert.
The
popular outdoor concert was left in apparent jeopardy after last
year's event was judged a wash-out after bad weather.
But
Jamie Roberts of the Old Pier Tavern, Gordon Clayton and Jeff
Ham of Burnham Rock, and Malcolms PAs, have stepped in to
save the event.
The
group, known as 'Alfresco Events' (pictured above), have this
week unveiled the line-up of musicians scheduled to play at the
2008 concert, which will be held at Burnham's BASC Ground on Saturday
26th July.
Opening
the show will be 'Wilderland' (pictured right) from North Devon,
playing a mix of folk, punk, celtic rock and American roots. Wilderland
is a solo artist that has been described by many as Shane
Mcgowan Meets Woody Guthrie.
Geno
Washington and his Ram Jam Band will be topping the bill.
Geno is generally acknowledged as the leading soul artist in the
UK. Geno and his Ram Jam Band were responsible for the third longest
staying chart LP in the 1960s, which spent 48 weeks in the British
top 20 album chart). During Genos successful career, he
has been supported by Jimmy Hendrix, The Cream and Pink Floyd
on his various tours.
Supporting
Geno are 60s rock sensation 'The Move' featuring Bev Bevan
on drums and Trevor Burton, lead guitar and vocals. The Move have
had nine top twenty singles, including Night of Fear,
Flowers in the Rain, Blackberry Way, and
are currently being featured by Radio One as the first band to
ever be played on the station.
The
organisers are also negotiating with a special guest and hope
to be announcing further bands over the next few weeks.
Bearing
in mind the problems of 2007, provision has been made to put the
event under cover in case of more poor weather.
Tickets
are on sale now, priced £12.50 in advance from GC Music
and the Old Pier Tavern. Credit card sales are welcome on 01278
783161.
