Injured
walker air-lifted to hospital after fall on Burnham cycle path
An
injured walker was air-lifted to hospital after suffering a suspected
dislocated shoulder in a fall on a riverside cycle path in Burnham-On-Sea
this week.
The
Devon and Somerset air ambulance landed besides the River Brue
- as pictured above - on Tuesday afternoon (January 22nd) before
flying the injured pensioner to Weston-super-Mare General Hospital.
Paramedics
treated the man at the scene after he'd fallen awkwardly and suffered
a painful shoulder injury along the cycle path, almost quarter
of a mile from Burnham Yacht Club.
Melodie
Juste, spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust,
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We were called to the river cycle
path at 2.07pm after a male in his 80s was knocked over by his
dog."
"A
rapid response vehicle and an ambulance were sent to the scene,
and the air ambulance was called to take the man to hospital."
The
man was understood to be recovering in hospital. One eyewitness
told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the ambulance teams had found it
difficult to reach the casualty due to a set of new bollards recently
introduced along the cycle path.
