Taps
run dry in Burnham-On-Sea as water problems continue
Taps
have run dry in many homes across Burnham-On-Sea and the surrounding
area as problems with a burst water main continue to affect the
town today (Thursday, September 4th).
Bristol
Water spokesman Jeremy Williams told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday
morning: "Crews have worked through the night in dreadful
conditions to make fresh repairs and these should be completed
soon."
"The
mains involved feed the local treated water storage reservoirs
and these have run very low. A large number of properties in the
area, especially those at higher levels, are now experiencing
poor pressure or have lost their supplies."
"We
expect the situation to improve during this morning, but we are
continuing to ask customers in these areas who have a supply to
be very careful over how much they use."
"Every
effort is being made to ensure that the situation returns to normal
as soon as possible."
The
photo on the right shows crews working in a deep hole at the site
of the water main burst in Rooksbridge early on Thursday morning.
Brent
Knoll Primary School has announced it is closed today, Thursday,
due to the water problems, and a spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"We do hope to re-open tomorrow if supplies are reconnected."
No
other schools are currently affected.
Burnham-On-Sea.com
reported yesterday
how Bristol Water had urged residents to use as little water as
possible to conserve supplies following a water main burst at
Rooksbridge.
However,
the company said on Wednesday afternoon it had repaired the burst
water pipe, but when it sprung a further leak more work had to
be carried out - and this continued into the early hours of today
.
Water
bowsers are set up outside Burnham Memorial Hospital (pictured
above); in the car park at Tescos in Love Lane; at Unity Farm
in Brean; at Somerfield in Pier Street, the playing field next
to The Berrow Inn; Brook Rd in Rooksbridge; Burnham Holiday Village
and Asda in Springfield Road, Highbridge.
Burnham-On-Sea.com
will have further updates throughout Thursday
