A home owner clambered onto the roof of his house to tackle a chimney blaze in West Huntspill, near Burnham, on Monday evening (March 3rd).

A team of Burnham-On-Sea fire fighters rushed to the property in New Road at 5.45pm after receiving a 999 telephone call alerting them that the chimney was alight – but on arrival they found the owner had scrambled up a ladder and extinguished the fire with a garden hose, as pictured here.

Burnham Fire Station Officer Ian Hazelton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “On this occasion, the fire had already been extinguished by one of the residents when we arrived.”

“It’s not something that the fire service recommends people do because it puts them in danger.”

He added that there was light smoke damage inside the property, but no significant damage.
