New 'Partnership with Parents'
scheme launched in Highbridge

A
pioneering scheme to strengthen the bond between parents and children
in the Burnham-On-Sea area has been launched by Highbridge Children's
Centre this week.
The
centre has been picked as one of just two places in Somerset to
launch a 'Partnership With Parents' scheme, which aims to build
on parental relations with children aged up to seven.
Burnham
and Highbridge Deputy Mayor Cllr Derick Cooper is pictured above
officially launching the scheme with Children's Centre Manager
Julian Plested.
"The
project aims to involve parents more closely in their children's
learning and development through a range of new activities and
courses," explained Mr Plested to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"There
will be a strong emphasis on helping children at important times,
such as starting nursery or moving on to school."
"The
project will also be looking for parents to come forward as volunteers
to lead activities, for which there will be training and support."
At
Tuesday's launch, held in the Oak Tree Arena, some of the new
activities which will be available to parents and children through
the project were showcased, as pictured here.
The
project is operating over two years in the centre's immediate
catchment area, covering Pawlett, West and East Huntspill, Mark,
Wedmore and Highbridge.
