Forces Day marked at Burnham and Highbridge ceremonies
Special
ceremonies were held in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge on Saturday
morning (June 27th) to mark the first national Armed Forces Day.
Over 30 local residents, including Burnham and Highbridge's
Mayor Derick Cooper and Mayoress Christine Cooper, attended ceremonies
besides the water feature in Pier Street and on Highbridge Green
in Market Street.
Flags
marking the special day were raised by the Mayor and his Cadet,
Nick Jones.
The
Mayor also paid tribute to those who serve in the forces before
the singing of the National Anthem.
Cllr
Cooper told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Many people from Burnham
and Highbridge serve in the forces, so it is right that we mark
this special day in both towns."
Armed
Forces Day is a new nationwide event that gives the public an
opportunity to show their support for the men and women who make
up the forces community.
