Brean
holiday park raises a further £4,400 for Burnham hovercraft
A
further £4,400 has been handed over to Burnham-On-Sea's
hovercraft charity by generous holidaymakers at a Brean holiday
park.
Members
of Diamond Farm's Fundraising Committee last month presented over
£5,800 to BARB, and a second cheque for £4,400 from
the park's pub fundraising group was handed over on Saturday night
(October 10th), making a huge total of £10,206 for the year.
The
money was collected from the Beachcomber Inn, Brean Tavern, Sandy
Glade and Burnham Holiday Village over the summer months and included
proceeds from the raffle of a car.
Roy
Newell, one of the Diamond Farm organisers, said: "People
have been very generous in giving money to this excellent cause
over the summer despite the recession. A big thank you goes to
everyone for their support."
BARB
Chairman Mark Newman added: "This is an incredible amount
and we are tremendously grateful to Diamond Farm and all those
holidaymakers who have dug deep to raise funds for us over ths
summer. All
the funds will go towards maintaining our equipment and training
our volunteer crews."
BARB,
a 17 year-old charity, operates two rescue hovercrafts, an inshore
rescue boat and a tractor. It has annual operating costs of £35,000.
Its volunteer crews have helped and rescued more than 200 people.
