Burnham
Youth Centre welcomes visit by government technology boss
The
boss of the government's UK Online initiative visited Burnham-On-Sea's
Youth Centre to see its technology clinic last week.
During
a tour of the South West's UK Online centres, Helen Milner, Managing
Director of UK online centres, discussed the government's strategy
with Paula Longdon from Skills Quest and BAY Centre volunteers.
Helen
Milner, Managing Director of UK online centres, said: "My
grand tour of South West UK online centres kicked off at The Engine
Room and Hamp Centre in Bridgwater and the next day moved onto
The Bay Centre in Burnham-On-Sea, plus an outreach session at
a Clevedon Methodist Church run by Weston College. It was fantastic
to meet visitors and staff and see how technology is transforming
life for different people in different ways."
"Getting
out and about isnt just one of my favourite bits of the
job, its one of the most important too. Its only by
keeping up to date with whats going on for real people and
real centres that I can represent their needs and views at a national
level. All of these centres are great resources for their different
communities, and together theyre helping to make the wider
UK online centres network a great resource for the country
as a whole."
BAY
Centre voluntary co-ordinator Mike Lang said: "Coming so
close to the national Silver Surfers day, Helens visit was
a great morale booster. We have only been a UK online centre since
the beginning of April, and rely greatly on volunteer help and
sponsorship."
