The fishing equivalent of the Oscars in Burnham-On-Sea took place on Wednesday evening (April 15th) when over 40 trophies and awards were handed out to members of Burnham Boat Owners Sea Angling Association.

Dozens of members gathered at the Oaktree Arena for the group’s annual presentation evening, when a busy year of competitions and bumper catches was recalled.

Tony Tandy, pictured above, won three awards, including the sought-after Aggregate Trophy.

Mark Draper, pictured right, also won three trophies, including the Bass Trophy for an 8lb 14oz fish, and the President’s Trophy for a 16lb 14oz Thornback Ray.

Mark Bowden got the award for best specimem, after reeling in a sole weighing 2lb 10oz.

And Neil Flay took the Away Day Trophy after catching a 64lb 13oz conger eel caught in Weymouth on an away day competition.

Also celebrating was sixteen year-old Anthony Georgiou who won no fewer than six trophies in the junior classes.

The club was established in 1975 and has almost 130 members fishing from over 50 boats.
