This impressive willow sculpture was one of the attractions on show along the banks of the River Brue in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday and Sunday (August 1st and 2nd), when local artists created a unique riverside arts trail during a two-day visual arts festival.

Crowds of art enthusiasts braved poor weather to see numerous sculptures, kites, windmills, banners and murals along the picturesque estuary during the ‘Breeze on the Brue’ festival.

The event also included guided walks along the estuary by the artists.

The windmills were made by residents of Holywell Nursing Home and Beaufort House care home with the help of Sue Hammond-Lovatt, while the kites were made by Beechfield School with the help of Margaret Micklewright.

Colourful banners were made by local youngsters with the help of Sarah Berryman and Verity Trevor-Morgan, and several murals at the Sailing Club were painted by Cathy Metcalf and Sue Hammond-Lovatt with the help of youngsters from the InAura project.

The impressive Willow Lady, pictured at the top of this page, which was created by Clive Hammond-Lovatt, and Cora Stock’s stunning sculpture on the river bank (right) were among the eye-catching attractions.

The festival also included a ‘Draw Burnham-On-Sea Day’ competition on Saturday when participants sketched pictures of the town.

And on Sunday, free family workshops were held in Apex Park from 10.30am-4pm at a gazebo near the main car park. An arts fayre was also held at Burnham Community Centre where a wide range of local paintings and crafts were on display.
