Search starts for Burnham’s Carnival Queen and princesses

The search is on to find his year’s Burnham-On-Sea Carnival Queen and two Princesses.

The successful entrants will lead the Carnival Procession on Monday 9th November and also present awards to the winners on the annual carnival presentation night.

Burnham-On-Sea Lions Club has joined forces with the town’s Chamber of Trade to present this year’s Carnival Queen Competition, which will be held on Friday 31st July at the Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street.

“A pre-contest briefing will start at 7.15pm and judging will commence at 8.00pm followed by an evening of entertainment hosted by Russell Dyson with music provided by local DJ Paul Hale. Admission £3.00 by ticket from Homehardware in the High Street,” said Lions Club spokesman Andrew Bryant.

“Entrants for Carnival Queen must be over 15 years of age and for Carnival Princess be between 7-15 years. All must reside within six miles of either Highbridge or Burnham.”

The Chamber of Trade is encouraging local shops and businesses to sponsor an employee, family member or friend to enter the Carnival Queen Competition at a cost of £10 per entrant. Other candidates wishing to enter may seek sponsorship from any other source.

There is also a prize of £100 for winner of the Carnival Queen Competition. Hair and Make Up for the winner will be provided by N-Hance.
