Police investigate 'fraud device' on Highbridge cashpoint
Scores
of shoppers at a supermarket in Highbridge may have fallen victim
to a scam operating at a cashpoint outside the store.
Bosses
at Asda in Caxton Road called in police after noticing a strange
device attached to one cashpoint, as pictured here.
Police
spokesman Simon Whitby confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Police
are investigating the possibility that a device used for fraud
was attached to a cash machine at the Asda store in Highbridge.
It comes after a member of the public raised a concern that the
ATM had been tampered with."
Officers
are concerned that a small camera may have been attached to astrip
of plastic located above the cash machine's number pad - as exclusively
pictured here - to record the PIN numbers tapped in by unsuspecting
shoppers as they withdrew money.
The
cash machine was taken out of action by Asda last Thursday as
soon as the suspicious object was spotted, but it was unclear
how long it had been in place. A full investigation is underway.
Police
are appealing for anyone with information to contact them via
Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
