Work
gets underway to build 73 new low-cost Highbridge homes
Controversial
work to build dozens of new homes on land next to Highbridge's
Asda supermarket has begun over the last week.
Land
alongside Caxton Road has been landscaped, as pictured, and construction
equipment has moved onto the site.
Raglan
Housing Association won permission from Sedgemoor District Council
to develop the 3.7 acre site last
year.
The
scheme includes 73 'affordable homes' in the first phase and the
whole site, when complete, will boast 117 homes.
The
plans for the low-cost houses and flats were met with controversy
when town councillors expressed concerns about "over development"
of the site amid soaring number of empty properties in the town.
