£25k CCTV camera scheme for Burnham-On-Sea seafront edges closer

-

Plans to introduce CCTV cameras on Burnham-On-Sea seafront to tackle anti-social behaviour and speeding have taken a step forward with news of a major funding boost.

Burnham Holiday Village has agreed to give £10,000 towards the purchase and installation of the cameras on the South Esplanade.

The pledge comes after earlier promises of £10,000 from the Somerset Crime and Disorder Partnership and £2,000 from Town Council reserves.

“A final decision on whether the CCTV scheme goes ahead could come on August 19th when the Town Council’s Policy and Finance Committee meets to decide whether to give £2,000 to the project,” Town Council Clerk Eileen Shaw told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.

Under the proposals, the cameras would be monitored 24 hours a day by Sedgemoor District Council’s camera monitoring team.
