Burnham-On-Sea's Chamber
of Trade says farewell to its Chairman
Members
of Burnham-On-Sea's Chamber of Trade praised their outgoing Chairman
during his final meeting in charge on Tuesday (April 21st).
Alex
Turco has stepped down from the high-profile role after two successful
years.
He
was presented with a gift on behalf of the Chamber's members by
member Geoff Shickle and President Gerry Germain during Tuesday's
AGM at the Somerset and Dorset pub, as pictured here.
Mr
Shickle said: "John Edwards, our previous Chairman, breathed
new life into Burnham's Chamber of Trade and brought back many
members to the fold. Alex has further strengthened those foundations
by raising the profile of the Chamber and increasing the overall
influence of the group. He will be greatly missed."
Alex
said: "It's important to have new ideas and fresh blood coming
into the Chamber. It's been a very busy, enjoyable two years."
He
added: "In the teeth of the deepest recession for at least
30 years, never has there been greater need for the businesses
of Burnham-On-Sea to work together."
Alex
thanked the committee for their hard work over the past year on
projects such as the launch of an updated Burnham shopping guide,
the successful campaign to save Burnham's seafront fireworks,
and the move of the Christmas lights to the northern end of the
High Street.
Secretary
Rhonda Mills and Treasurer Jonathan Walters, who have also stepped
down from their positions, were praised for their work for the
Chamber.
The
Chamber's new committee was elected and will consist of Geoff
Shickle, Mike Ham, Louise Parkin, Rhonda Mills, Tom Ashton, Mark
Newman, Nigel Kemp and Gerry Germain. Positions within the Chamber
will be decided at the group's next meeting.
