Temporary
end to roadworks misery in Highbridge town centre
Long-suffering
businesses in Highbridge have finally been given some good news
after a temporary end to major roadworks in the town centre.
Work
in Church Street has come to a halt for two weeks over the busy
Easter holiday period to avoid additional traffic congestion.
"The
workmen and their equipment were removed on Friday (April 3rd),
but they will return on Monday April 20th to finish the job,"
a spokesman for the contractors carrying out the work told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The
work to replace gas mains along Church Street began in January
and has caused endless queues of traffic, as pictured above, and
consequently hurt the trade of local businesses.
Burnham-On-Sea.com
revealed last
week that businesses along the road were fuming after being
offered 'compensation' of just a few pounds as part of a temporary
reduction in the Rateable Value of properties affected.
