Villagers welcome new police scheme to combat cold callers

-

Burnham-On-Sea police have this week launched a brand new ‘no cold calling zone’ in Pawlett.

With zones now in operation across much of Burnham, brand new schemes are being rolled out into rural areas, with East Huntspill also set to follow during the next few weeks.

The introduction of the schemes enable householders to collectively discourage the often-unwelcome practice of cold calling.

On Monday evening (July 13th), the Pawlett scheme was officially launched by parish councillors and local police, including PC Pete Wills, at the village hall – as pictured.

Parish Council Chairman Simon Coggins told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Several elderly residents have fallen victim to doorstep callers in recent years, so we’re all very keen to have the new scheme in place. It will act as a good deterrant to cold callers.”
