This huge 23lb 9oz conger eel was reled in from the waters off Burnham-On-Sea during a boat fishing competition on Sunday (September 27th).

Bristol fisherman Jeff Clarke, pictured, made the bumper catch to win the first event of Burnham Boat Owners Sea Angling Association’s new winter season.

Jeff told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I caught it in the waters off Hinkley Point. There were plenty of small fish about, but nothing as big as this.”

The first competition usually sees the entrants reeling in Thornback Rays but not one was caught by the 12 members, one guest and three juniors taking part in Sunday’s competition.

Second place was won by John Quinn, with a Dogfish of 1lb 15oz, and third prize went to Gary Mewdell with a Bullhuss weighing 4lb 12oz. The juniors competition was won by Libby Clark with a Dogfish of 2lb 2oz.
