Burnham
rally drivers delighted with second place at Somerset Rally

An
action-packed day of rallying saw Burnham-On-Sea Motor Club members
Dave Phillips and Tim Bagg finish second in the annual Somerset
Stages Rally held in Minehead earlier this week.
The
duo were competing in their BMW, pictured here, against 150 other
crews from across the UK and this was their best-ever result.
Dave
told Burnham-On-Sea.com the race was not without incident: "Everything
went very well in the morning but it rained just before we did
the two runs up the Porlock Toll Road, which made it very slippery."
"The
car in front of us spun and blocked the road and we lost two minutes
waiting for the road to be cleared."
"We
were fourth in class at the end of the rally but after a complaint
about the hold up by another competitor the organisers gave us
'a nominal time' for the stage which moved us up to second place."
"Also,
when we were returning from the Porlock stage, the car started
making some strange noises and when we got to the service area
our mechanic found the gearbox mounting was damaged but he was
able to repair it within the time we were allocated."
Dave
said they were both pleased with the result. "We were very
surprised and over the moon with a class result. We are a very
low budget team and only compete for the thrill of it. I was really
pleased for Tim, my Navigator, who has not been competing in motorsport
for very long."
