£14,000 grant delights bosses at Burnham-On-Sea football club

-

Bosses at Burnham-On-Sea United Football Club are celebrating after hearing earlier this week that they have received a huge £12,000 grant windfall from Sedgemoor District Council.

Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report on Monday that the council’s Grants Awards Sub Committee had awarded £12,346 to Burnham United Junior and Senior Football Club.

Chairman Spencer Dibble, pictured above with delighted club bosses and supporters this week, told Burnham-On-Sea.com the money would go towards the cost of improving toilet and shower facilities in its changing rooms at its clubhouse in Cassis Close.

“Funding has been badly needed here for a long time. The building was constructed in 1967 and very little has been done to it since,” he said.

“We need modern facilities to attract players. The cost of the overall project is around £17,000, so we’ll need to raise more money before we can start the redevelopment.”

He added that the club would like to start the work next April, at the of the football season, to avoid too much disruption.

The club’s President, Albert Laurence, added that the grant is “wonderful news.”

The club’s committee – Albert Laurence, Spencer Dibble, Mike Mathews, Lorraine Dibble, Pauline Smith, Elliot Lamb – have been celebrating the news with ward councillor Mike Mansfield (pictured above).
