Pupils and staff at Highbridge’s King Alfred School are celebrating their best ever GCSE results today (Thursday August 27th).

The school has achieved a 51 per cent pass rate for pupils getting five A*-C grades including maths and English. This has increased from 39.5 per cent last year.

The school also recorded a 64 per cent rate for pupils getting five A*-C grades in any subject, which was up from 51 per cent in 2008.

Head teacher Dr Keith Diffey told Burnham-On-Sea.com this morning: “These are the best-ever results in the school’s history. The figures have far exceeded our expectations – it’s been a fabulous year for the school.”

“The results are a wonderful reward for the students, who have put in so much hard work. Our staff have also worked very hard and this is a reflection of that.”

Last week, Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here how the school had achieved record A-level results.
