A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a serious assault in the centre of Highbridge on Monday evening (October 26th) when a man was struck over the head with a baseball bat.

The injured man, also in his 20s, was taken by ambulance to Weston General Hospital with head injuries following the incident in Church Street at 9.50pm.

Police spokesman Simon Whitby confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police were called to the scene after reports of a verbal altercation.”

“A man had been hit about the head with a baseball bat. He suffered cuts to his head and face. A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.”

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene, as pictured above, and officers were seen taking away a man in handcuffs shortly after the incident before carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

The incident comes exactly a week after Burnham-On-Sea.com was also first to report that a 28-year-old man had been threatened with a baseball bat as he walked along Berrow Road in Burnham-On-Sea on Monday October 19th. His iPod and a mobile phone were stolen.
