Burnham-On-Sea’s £14,000 carnival float wowed judges at Bridgwater Carnival on Friday night (November 6th), winning first place in its class.

Members of Hillview Juvenile Carnival Club are celebrating after their float, called Gee Wiz, was awarded the top place in the juvenile class on the first night of the carnival season.

“We had a great reception and were delighted to be awarded first place,” club chairman Mark Bishop told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“It was a brilliant result and our first win at Bridgwater since 2005 with Celebration.”

The impressive 100ft-long float, which this year has a wizards theme, features 12,500 light bulbs.

The float now travels on to North Petherton for its carnival tonight (Saturday, November 7th).

The float will then come back to Burnham to take part in Burnham-On-Sea Carnival on Monday November 9th.
