In Video: Stranded 4×4 pulled from Brean mudflats after getting stuck

-

This vehicle was left rather worse for wear after being pulled from the mudflats at Brean on Wednesday (August 5th) following a two-hour retrieval operation.

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported on Tuesday how a fisherman had driven the Honda 4×4 almost a quarter of a mile from the beach and got stuck.

On Wednesday, a commercial recovery service from Weston was brought in to pull the vehicle free, as shown in our online video footage.

Weston Recovery’s staff spent much of the morning attaching ropes and chains to the stricken vehicle before finally managing to tow it free.

The weight of four tides and the pressure of the mud and sand had left the vehicle in a very poor condition.

Beach warden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The cost of retrieving the vehicle is expected to be around £3,000 and then there’s the cost of replacing it, so this was a very expensive trip to Brean for this visitor.”

The owner, who was on holiday at Pontin’s from Stourport-On-Severn, had apparently driven the high-performance vehicle onto the mudflats in a bid to reach the sea to do some fishing.

Burnham-On-Sea.com understands he also sparked an earlier incident at the weekend when his children went missing, prompting a search by Burnham Coastguards and Police. The children were eventually found safe and well.

A crowd of holidaymakers walked out to see the stuck vehicle up close.

Chains and ropes were attached to the 4×4 through its back windows.

The vehicle was finally freed after a two-hour operation.
