Russian dance troupe set to make visit to Highbridge school

-

Members of Highbridge’s King Alfred School Youth Dance Company, KAZDANZ, will soon be re-united with friends they met a year ago in Russia.

During February 2008, members of the group travelled to the old town of Pereslavl Zalessky to spend a week at a Russian school, get to know students, and learn all about Russian dance.

They were also able to show off their own dance skills and work together with a Russian group called Orchid to put on a joint performance.

Over the next week, it is KAZDANZ’s turn to play host when students and teachers from school number 7 visit Burnham-On-Sea. The group will be staying with families and participating on a number of excursions, as well as joining students at King Alfred School for workshops and a joint performance.

VIPs in the Russian group include the school’s Headteacher, Igor Verteev and Regional Head of Education, Andrey Protopopov.

KAZDANZ director Dr Alec Brice told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our students are so excited about meeting up with their Russian counterparts.”

“We will never forget the kindness and generosity and the warmth of their welcome when we were there last year.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for young people from different backgrounds and traditions to get together, learn from each other, and make life-long friendships.”
