£4m development of Brean Leisure Park edges closer

-

Brean Leisure Park’s £4million development project is set to move a step closer with the submission of a planning application over the next few weeks.

As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com in June, the park’s managing director Richard House plans to revamp the 1970s site by installing a roof to cover a new 25m, six lane pool featuring an ice rink, refurbished water flumes and a mini river.

The cost of the project for holidaymakers and the public has risen to £4 million from the initial £3 million.

Mr House has just paid Sedgemoor District Council £2,000 for 150 lockers and 50 cubicals from the former Sedgemoor Splash swimming complex in Bridgwater, which the cash-strapped council closed in August to save cash.

He added he is considering buying other Splash remains like the water slide tower and the wave machine.

Mr House said: “It’s sad Splash closed but we hope to provide a bigger, better facility for people in the area – we are even looking to name ours somewhat in memory of it. I’m feeling confident about this project, if we can pull it off it will be a really interesting, modern attraction.”

He hopes to submit his planning application for the complex in November and, if all goes to plan, the first phase could begin within months.

The complex currently employs three full-time and 14 part-time staff, but he hopes the redevelopment will double the staff numbers.
