This was the dramatic scene in Highbridge on Tuesday afternoon (May 26th) as emergency crews dealt with a bizarre lorry accident.

Burnham-On-Sea fire crews, paramedics and police were called to Worston Road at 3pm after the accident left the driver stuck in his cab.

The truck had lost its balance as it attempted to unload a large quantity of tarmac, sending its front wheels shooting upwards and leaving it up-ended on its rear.

Fire crews helped the shocked lorry driver free from his cab.

Police spokeswoman Cath Foster told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The lorry was involved in an accident as it delivered tarmac to Worston Road. Fotunately, the driver who was stuck in the cab was not injured and was released unharmed.”

An eyewitness at the scene of the incident told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was the driver’s first day on the job, so he was left rather embarrassed by the whole episode.”

The road is currently being resurfaced by contractors working on behalf of Somerset County Council.
