Lucky
escape for driver as lorry careers off M5 at Burnham-On-Sea

Traffic
on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea was reduced to a crawl
on Thursday morning (March 19th) after this lorry careered off
the southbound carriageway into a ditch.
The
juggernaut ploughed through a metal barrier on the hard shoulder
near junction 22 at Burnham, went down an embankment, and ended
up in a ditch.
Emergency
services were quickly on the scene, soon after 7am, and were relieved
to find the driver had escaped serious injuries.
Police
spokesman Martin Dunscombe told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Police
were called to a lorry that had left the motorway between junctions
22 and 23. An ambulance was called and the driver was found to
have suffered just minor injuries, mainly shock."
There
were foggy weather conditions at the time of the crash. The lorry
is owned by an Exeter haulage firm.
