Serious crash causes M5 delays near Burnham-On-Sea

This multi-vehicle accident caused delays for motorists on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday (July 21st).

A lorry collided with a Highways Agency vehicle on the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway near to junction 23.

“An air ambulance took the lorry driver to the Bath Royal Hospital and two other people were also treated for injuries,” police spokesman Simon Whitby told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Police officers, fire crews and ambulances from Burnham and Bridgwater were called to the scene shortly after 11.30am.

“The fire service made several vehicles safe and helped the ambulance service move three casulaties onto spinal boards who were conveyed to hospital,” said a fire spokesman. “The fire service also released one man from a vehicle using cutting equipment.”

The accident caused long delays for motorists passing the scene.
