Delighted Burnham-On-Sea shop owners John and Katherine Edwards are celebrating this week after scooping three sought-after awards in a national competition.
Material Needs in the High Street was voted ‘South West Stitching Retailer Of The Year’ at the 2009 Craft Hobby & Stitch International Awards for the third year running.
But the couple were “utterly stunned” when their business was also named ‘South West Knitting Retailer Of The Year’ and ‘Stitching Retailer Of The Year’ for the whole UK.
The couple received the good news at the NEC in Birmingham on Sunday (February 15th) when they were presented the awards in front of an audience of 500 people.
John told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s tremendous news, we’re both thrilled. We were hoping we could win the ‘South West Stitching Retailer Of The Year’ again, but had no idea about the other two awards!”
“We almost fell out of our chairs when we heard we’d won the second award and were utterly stunned and flabbergasted to get a third as well.”
“A big thank you goes to all those supporters who voted for us. We are very grateful and honoured.”
He added: “This is good news for Burnham too. Burnham is only a small town, and the South West region covers a large area with many other retailers so there was a lot of competition. We are proud to have won and it’s great to see Burnham being recognised as a place to do shopping.”
