Burnham-On-Sea's
Mayor confirms run in county council elections
Burnham-On-Sea
Conservatives have this week officially announced that the town's
Mayor will be on ballot papers at June's County Council elections.
Peter
Burridge-Clayton, pictured, has been selected as the Tory candidate
for Burnham North/South for the County Council elections.
Talking
to Burnham-On-Sea.com, he explained why he is running for the
post: "I have been a town councillor for over 21 years and
my experience on the district council has given me an insight
as to what will be expected at county level."
"I
have a good knowledge of the education department, serving as
a chair of a governing body for 10 years and also being appointed
to the County Governors forum."
He added: "I am also a mentor for the Youth Town Council
and support our young members in activities at local and regional
level. This has also given me an insight into the County Youth
Service. I am also the Chairman of the Burnham & Highbridge
Town Council and am currently serving as Mayor for the second
time."
"I
have been a very active councillor and am prepared to get involved
in many community issues. I believe I made a serious impact in
to the saving and refurbishment of Burnham swimming pool, and
it was a pledge that the completion of the Frank Foley parkway
would be a priority in my year as Mayor."
"I
will also be working with interested groups to ensure the long-term
survival and improvement of the Princess as a community asset.
I feel discussions are going in the right direction and things
are looking very positive."
"I believe I have a good reputation for getting things done,
and within the Town and District Council I am proud of my record,
however time and time again I have been frustrated at not getting
results from our County Council. Traffic calming in areas such
as Stoddens Road, Berrow Road and Love Lane are a good example.
Clearly, there is a need, but representations from local Councillors
falls on deaf ears. If elected, I will make sure my voice is heard
loud and clear at County Hall."
The
County Council elections will be held on June 4th. Burnham's Liberal
Democrats announced
last year that their candidate will be Mike Mansfield in the
Burnham North ward.
