Burnham-On-Sea
hovercrafts join search for two missing swimmers
Two
rescue hovercrafts from Burnham-On-Sea have this afternoon joined
the search for two missing swimmers in the Bristol Channel.
The
hovercrafts were launched at 1.20pm and are now being used to
scour the mudflats and shoreline between Burnham-On-Sea and Brean
Down, a distance of 7.5 miles.
Crewmembers
on the two crafts, The Light Of Elizabeth, and The Spirit of Lelaina,
are working closely with Coastguards and lifeboat crews to search
for the missing swimmers, who were last
seen at around 9.15pm on Tuesday in nearby Weston.
"Our
hovercraft crews are very familiar with this stretch of coastline
and have been tasked with conducting a thorough search of the
mudflats, which are currently uncovered at low tide," said
Mark Newman, Chairman of BARB,
the Burnham Area Rescue Boat, which oversees the rescue hovercrafts.
