Coastguards issue warning over mudflats video
Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards have issued a safety warning
after a group youngsters posted this video of themselves on YouTube
claiming to have walked from Weston to Brean across the treacherous
River Axe estuary.
Although
there are questions about the authenticity of the claims given
the youngsters' apparent unmuddy state, Coastguard Station Officer
Steve Bird said in a statement: "They are taking their lives
into their own hands because there is a serious risk of getting
stuck there. It
is particularly dangerous and the mud is very hazardous."
The
group of six youngsters are seen in the video wiping mud from
their shoes and then jokingly stating: "We made it to Brean
alright then."
The
video, embedded above, was posted on YouTube a week ago. Mr Bird
added: "If people see anyone on that stretch I would suggest
that they call the coastguard to get help."
