New off-licence prepares to open as Threshers shuts in Burnham

-

The shutters came down for the final time at Burnham-On-Sea’s Threshers off-licence on Saturday (December 19th) as the store’s manager revealed he is planning to open a new off-licence in the town soon.

Threshers in College Street has been forced to close down due to the nationwide collapse of the retailer’s parent company, First Quench Retailing.

However, the store’s manager, Mark Brooks (pictured), told Burnham-On-Sea.com that shoppers in the town will soon have a new independent off-licence.

“I can confirm that plans are well underway for a new off-licence in Burnham town centre, which will open during the first quarter of 2010,” he said.

“We’re currently in negotiations to take on the lease of a vacant property, but until those talks are complete I can’t say any more.”

Threshers suffered from increased competition from supermarkets in recent years, but Mr Brooks says there is still a market for an off-licence in Burnham.

Burnham-On-Sea.com also reported last month that a new mini-mart is due to open soon in Abingdon Street. It has applied for a late night alcohol license.
