Colourful poppy festival celebrated at Brent Knoll church

-

A Brent Knoll church burst into colour when villagers held a poppy festival on Saturday (November 7th) to remember those who have lost their lives during recent conflicts.

Sally Wingate, organiser of the event at St Michael’s Church, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We last held poppy festivals in Brent Knoll during 1985 and 1995. Given recent conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, we felt a further festival was needed.”

“Some 15 members of our church flower arranging group have been busy preparing displays over the last week and the church looked superb. There was also a soup dinner and a piano recital during the day.”

She added: “We had a good number of visitors and hope to have raised a good sum for the Royal British Legion’s Earl Haig Poppy Fund.”
