Burnham-On-Sea MP to
raise regeneration 'snub' in parliament
Burnham-On-Sea's
MP said on Monday evening (June 8th) that he will be raising the
"disgraceful" decision by the South West Regional Development
Agency to terminate funding for the town's regeneration project
in Parliament.
£750,000
of promised funding has been withdrawn by SWRDA, as first reported
by Burnham-On-Sea.com earlier on Monday.
David
Heathcoat-Amory told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "SWRDA has wasted
over £20m on the derelict Morlands site in Glastonbury without
creating a single new job."
"Now
they are withdrawing funding from Burnham-On-Sea despite years
of expensive planning and consultation."
"The
only jobs that SWRDA create are in their own organisation."
"Burnham
urgently needs this project in order to attract more private sector
investment, and compete in the competitive tourist sector. I will
be raising SWRDA's breach of trust in Parliament."
