Bad weather has forced the cancellation of this weekend’s annual procession of illuminated yachts in Burnham-On-Sea.

The colourful display of decorated yachts was due to be held this Saturday (September 5th).

However, Rod Southwell, Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club’s Racing Master, told Burnham-On-Sea.com the event has been cancelled due to poor weather.

“This week’s strong winds and poor weather mean no-one has been able to spend any preparation rigging up the lights to their yachts,” he said. “Also, some of the smaller boats have had to stay in Cardiff due to the high winds.”

“We’ve therefore taken the decision to cancel Saturday’s event, but we do plan to hold it again next year.”

The spectacle usually attracts crowds of spectators to Burnham seafront. Click here to see online video of last year’s illuminated procession.
