photos: Churchgoer baptized in the sea in Burnham ceremony
A
Highbridge churchgoer was baptized in the sea next to Burnham-On-Sea's
jetty this week.
Liz
Ryan of Burnham Community Church waded into the waters of Bridgwater
Bay to be baptized by Pastors
Steve Mason and
Andy Selby during a ceremony in front of 50
family, friends and churchgoers.
Liz
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It was a very special moment. It
was wonderful to hold the ceremony in the sea and publicly show
my commitment and dedication to my faith. The water was quite
warm and exhilarating!"
Music
and a flag-flying ceremony were performed on the jetty as part
of the baptism, which was held on Sunday evening (June 7th).
Many
members of the Burnham church get baptized each year, but they
usually choose a warm swimming pool for the traditional full-immersion
ceremony.
