Woman injured in accident on Burnham-On-Sea seafront

A young woman was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries on Thursday morning (June 11th) after an accident with a car on the town's seafront.

A large area of The Esplanade and the top of Cross Street was closed to traffic, as pictured here, as police investigated what had happened.

Police spokesman Steve Game told "Police were called to the scene at 11.15am after an accident involving a pedestrian and a white Mercedes."

"A female in her 20s was taken to Weston General Hospital with head injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening."

The lady was later transferred to a specialist unit in Bristol for further treatment.
