Rumours that Tesco has put the expansion of its Burnham-On-Sea store on hold have been rejected by the supermarket giant this week.

Earlier this year, rthe firm was granted planning permission by Sedgemoor District Council to extend its premises off Love Lane.

However, there have been no signs of building work starting and rumours on Burnham’s discussion forums this week questioned whether the plans had been postponed or cancelled.

But Juliette Bishop, Tesco’s regional spokeswoman, assured Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday: “The extension is definitely going ahead. We’ve got planning permission to enlarge the store and the work is currently being planned. Some preliminary work has already been completed and the construction will be starting soon.”

The supermarket giant intends to develop its South and East elevations and create a new access route to the store, plus introduce a revised car parking layout.
