A well-known Burnham-On-Sea couple’s search for a new home was the centre of attention on BBC1’s To Buy Or Not To Buy on Tuesday morning (July 7th).
John and Shirley Endall appeared on the show with the intention of moving home from Burnham-On-Sea to Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire to be nearer their grandchildren.
John, a former science teacher at Highbridge’s King Alfred School, and Shirley, a former headteacher at Brent Knoll School, visited several properties accompanied by a film crew.
Shirley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve lived in Burnham for over 35 years and are very settled here, but we have two wonderful grand-daughters aged 3 and 4 living in Staffordshire whom we would dearly love to see more of.”
She explained how she and her husband had come to enlist the help of the BBC show to try and find their new home.
“I was doing the ironing one morning earlier this year and happened to turn on To Buy Or Not To Buy when there was an appeal for participants.”
“I went onto the BBC website to find out more and entered our details into the form without really expecting to hear any more. However, the phone rang later that afternoon and within a few days the BBC had picked us!”
The programme was filmed in Burnham and Staffordshire during March, and aired on Tuesday morning during BBC1’s regular morning schedule.
Although Shirley says the filming of the programme was “a fantastic experience,” she revealed that the programme has not actually helped them find a property.
“If I’m honest, we’re still no closer to moving. We have many friends in Burnham and know so many people that it would be incredibly difficult to leave,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“I love Burnham and find other places very claustrophobic in comparison, but our search for a new home is still continuing.”
John was a science teacher for 23 years at King Alfred School and Shirley was head teacher at Brent Knoll School for 14 years.
