National
Volunteers Week to be marked with Burnham-On-Sea event
The
work of volunteers will be in the spotlight when a special event
is held in Burnham's Princess Hall to mark the 25th Anniversary
of National Volunteer Week.
Sedgemoor
District Council, the Sedgemoor Volunteer bureau, Age Concern
and Next Step are holding an open day on Monday June 1st from
10am-3pm at The Princess, pictured.
Council
spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Attendees
will have the opportunity to meet other volunteers, find out about
free training opportunities, and enjoy a cream tea."
"There
will also be a wide range of fun activities being held, such as
jive dancing, Hula Hooping, Belly Dancing and hand massages."
National
Volunteer week runs from June 1st to 7th.
Volunteers Week began in 1984 and it was initially run on
a local level but in order to raise greater awareness of the importance
of volunteers, the National Centre for Volunteering - now known
as Volunteering England - took the lead in organising the event.
