Burnham’s Mayor joins coffee drinkers in raising a mug for charity

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor was among hundreds of local people raising their coffee cups for charity on Friday (September 25th) when the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ was held.

The Friends of Apex Park joined in the nationwide event, which was raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Almost 50 people attended the event in Apex Park, including Mayor Derick Cooper and the Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, Jane Moreton.

Events were also held at Sanders Garden World (pictured right) and at Burnham Community Centre and Berrow Village Hall.

Sanders Garden World’s General Manager, Peter Burks said: “Lots of people from the area came along to our event and helped us support this worthy cause. We don’t know the total amount of money raised yet as we’re still counting, but we know we have raised more than £200.”

The Berrow event was run by the village’s U3A. One of the organisers, Barry Kew, told Burnham-On-Sea.com the morning had raised more than £400 and had been attended by over 70 people.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s flagship fundraising event, which last year attracted 45,000 people at coffee mornings across the UK, raising more than £7.5million.
