3D films burst onto screens at Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Cinema this week

-

3D movies will be coming to Burnham-On-Sea’s cinema for the first time later this week.

The Ritz in Victoria Street has invested £75,000 in a new state-of-the-art digital projector, which is being installed this week in readiness for Friday’s first 3D screening.

Blockbuster Avartar will be the first film to get the 3D treatment, with the re-make of Alice In Wonderland to follow next month.

Cinema owner Pat and Beryl Scott, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “3D is the current buzz word in the cinema world and we want The Ritz to be a part of it.”

Burnham's Ritz Cinema in Victoria Street“We’re very excited to have bought a brand new digital projector that will enable us to launch our first 3D screenings later this week.”

“Viewers will need to wear 3D glasses to fully enjoy the film, but they are very comfortable, high quality specs nothing like the cheap ones from the 1980s!”

“They really do bring films alive and put you in the middle of film scenes. It’s quite incredible!”

The first 3D screening will be Avatar at 4.10pm and 7.30pm this Friday, February 26th. Alice In Wonderland will debut on March 5th.

Pat added: “There has been a lot of interest already and we hope that the popularity grows and makes it financially viable in the long run.”

Burnham’s Ritz Cinema is one of just a handful of cinemas across the west country with 3D installed. There are others in Barnstable, Bristol, Taunton and Truro.

The Ritz Cinema’s owners, Pat and Beryl Scott, first revealed the plans for a 3D projector to Burnham-On-Sea.com last year.
