Shock
as Burnham cafe seeks to introduce 'occasional strippers'

Councillors
have this week reacted with shock at plans by this Burnham-On-Sea
cafe to apply for a licence to introduce "occasional topless
bar staff and strippers."
The surprise application emerged on Monday evening (August 2nd)
when the owners of Alfie Blu's in Pier Street sought formal permission
from Sedgemoor District Council to change its Premises Licence
and add a bar serving alcohol along with occasional late night
entertainment, theatrical events and live music.
Councillors
considered the application at Monday's Town Council meeting in
Jaycroft Road, where the proposals received little support.
Cllr
Eric Gill told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "I am shocked and utterly
amazed that such an inappropriate scheme has been put forward
here."
And
Cllr Neville Jones added: "To have occasional late night
events here until 3am would be inappropriate for a building at
such a principal junction in Burnham."
Town
Clerk Eileen Shaw stressed at the meeting that the bid to introduce
occasional topless bar staff was just one small part of the overall
application to change the Premises Licence, which also covers
the introduction of a range of entertainment.
A
final decision on the scheme now rests with Sedgemoor District
Council. A council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that responses
from interested parties are being invited until August 10th. The
full application can be viewed online here.
