Burnham-On-Sea bar fined for serving drink to under age customer

-

A seafront bar in Burnham-On-Sea has been fined hundreds of pounds for serving alcohol to an under-age customer.

The owner of Chaplins on The Esplanade appeared before Sedgemoor Magistrates this week, where he received a £265 fine and £250 of costs.

It follows an operation last October – which was jointly overseen by Somerset County Council’s Trading Standards team and local police – when a number of test purchases were made at pubs and clubs across Burnham.

Sgt Ian Kennett of Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We want licensees to be responsible and to take measures to prevent under-age drinking.”

“Licensing issues are one of our current top priorities, having been selected by residents during the latest PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting in Burnham-On-Sea.”
