New beach safety leaflet aims to sweep away scenes like this

-

Councillors in Brean hope scenes like this will become a problem of the past with the publication of a brand new beach safety leaflet warning of the dangers that lie along our coastline.

The parish council has just published 60,000 copies of the new brochure, pictured here, to educate visitors about how to stay safe while enjoying the beach.

“The brochure warns people about the dangers, such as mud and fast-incoming tides, without being alarmist,” Jon Harris, Vice Chairman of Brean Parish Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.

“It contains information about water safety, walking dogs on the beach and Down, plus car parking and activities such as horse riding and jet skiing.”

The publication is being distributed to motorists driving onto the beach, plus visitors at holiday parks in the village. The leaflet has been financed by local businesses.

Last year, several cars became stuck in soft sand and mud on parts of Brean, Berrow and Burnham beaches, prompting the fresh safety push in time for the school holidays. You can download a copy of the new leaflet here.
